The Real Madrid-Manchester City game on the first match day of the Champions League group qualifying round will be refereed by Damir Skomina. It will be the third time the Slovenian referees a Whites match. The two previous occasions resulted in wins for Real Madrid against Ajax (2-0) in the 2010/11 Champions League group qualifying round and against Olympique de Lyon (3-0) in the return leg of the round prior to the quarter-finals in the same campaign. Curiously, both fixtures were played in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, just like the match this Tuesday. He has refereed Manchester City on one occasion in the past in which they played an away match. That was against Nápoles (2-1) in the group qualifying round of the last campaign.
