José Mourinho is planning a meeting with Kaká this coming Monday, in which he'll inform him that if he stays at Madrid it'll be with a significantly smaller role that he has had up to now, and that the Brazilian can expect to play even fewer minutes than during the last campaign. It'll be an invitation to the player to look for a future away from Real Madrid.

There are two factors which make the departure of Kaká an unavoidable topic at the Bernabéu. The first regards his performances of late. Kaká arrived during the 2009/10 season as one of Florentino Pérez's star signings, along with Cristiano Ronaldo. But unlike the Portuguese, he hasn't lived up to expectations.

The other is economic. Letting the Brazilian international go would allow the club to accommodate the salary of the much desired Croatian midfielder Luka Modric. It's not only a matter of the money that could be made from the transfer (Madrid believe they can get at least 25 million euros for him, be that from Milan or another club), but the money that would be saved in the absence of Kaká's substantial wage bill: nine million euros a season.

Mourinho has tried to help the player find his form in the last two years. But whereas with Benzema he's been able to spur him on to greater and greater heights, taking a first team spot from Higuaín, with Kaká there have been no solutions. The Brazilian has been troubled with injuries, and unable to perform in the important matches.

Kaká's exit this summer seems inevitable, though first Madrid or the player's agents will have to find a destination for him that can support the transfer fee and the salary. For the moment, Mourinho will tell him on Monday how it is.
