Real Madrid’s star striker Cristiano Ronaldo wants to become the first footballer to earn £400,000 a week, Soccernet quoted an ESPN source as saying.
According to the report, because of Spain’s tax laws that Ronaldo would need to break through the £400,000-a-week barrier for a big pay rise to take effect.

Ronaldo has in the past said that he is ‘sad’ at the club, only to clarify that it has nothing to do with money.
However, the Soccernet report says that Ronaldo wants to double his current salary, which would help convince him the club was willing to retain him.
The question though is will Mourinho and the powers that be at Real Madrid agree to meet their star midfielder’s demand?
But given both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are already showing interest in the striker, talks to hold back Ronaldo, possibly without the huge spike in salary, are already under way.
Ronaldo remains under contract at Real until 2015.
