Ricardo Carvalho will not be leaving Real Madrid as previously thought. The Portuguese centre-back is not part of Mourinho's plans (in fact he still hasn't trained with the rest of the team), but will stay at the club after not receiving any suitable offers. Carvalho has some legal issues to clear up but will remain back-up for Pepe, Ramos, Albiol and Varane. Mourinho said last week that he "doesn't know how to be a substitute", so he is due to be used sparingly and only in emergency situations.
Carvalho had received two one-year offers over the past few weeks, from AC Milan and QPR, but decided both were not suitable after preferring a two-year deal. With Carvalho remaining at the club, Madrid can now presume the transfer window is closed given that Kaká will also be staying at the club bar a miraculous last minute swoop.
