Besides Milan's widely reported interest in re-signing Kaká, the "Rossoneri" have also put out the feelers out for another Madrid player: Lass Diarra. The Frenchman would help shore up an area of the squad that has been weakened by the departures of Strasser and Muntari.

Berlusconi was initially hoping to raid the Spanish giants for Xabi Alonso, but was forced to admit that – at least for now – signing the Basque-born star is an impossible dream. Milan has kept tabs on Diarra's situation and knows that he has decided to stay at Madrid because he hasn’t received an offer that matches his aspirations.

The Whites no longer expect the Frenchman to leave and only an offer that satisfies both club and player would change this stance. The fact that Diarra only has one year left on his contract and Madrid's keenness to offload him now both work in Milan's favour. However, the Frenchman's lofty financial demands – he is looking for a deal worth at least €4 million a season –could put off the Italian club's vice-president, Adriano Galliani.
